Atharvaveda is composed by Atharva sage. There are total 731 mantras in this Veda and there are about 6000 verses. Some of its mantras are more ancient than Rigveda Vedic mantras. Earth Veda condemns the birth of girls. Historically, the importance of Artha Veda is in this. That it contains the details of the thoughts and superstitions of the common man. Earth Sukta means that the Vedas are considered representative of happiness. In this, all aspects of human life are house construction, development of agriculture, search for trade routes, prevention of anger, coordination, marriage and royal devotion, The election of the king, many plants and medicines, snakes, captivity, atonement, motherland Mahatma etc. have been described. Some mantras also describe witchcraft.
अथर्ववेद अथर्व ऋषि के द्वारा रचित है इस वेद में कुल 731 मंत्र हैं तथा लगभग 6000 पद हैं इसके कुछ मंत्र ऋग्वेद वैदिक मंत्रों से भी प्राचीन तर हैं अर्थ वेद कन्याओं के जन्म की निंदा करता है ऐतिहासिक दृष्टि से अर्थ वेद का महत्व इस बात में है कि इसमें सामान्य मनुष्य के विचारों तथा अंधविश्वासों का विवरण मिलता है पृथ्वी सूक्त अर्थ वेद का प्रतिनिधि सुख माना जाता है इसमें मानव जीवन के सभी पक्षों गृह निर्माण, कृषि की उन्नति, व्यापार मार्गों का खोज, राग निवारण, समन्वय, विवाह तथा राज भक्ति, राजा का चुनाव, बहुत से वनस्पतियों एवं औषधियों, सांप, वशीकरण, प्रायश्चित, मातृभूमि महात्मा आदि का विवरण दिया गया है कुछ मंत्रों में जादू टोने का भी वर्णन मिलता है
